Beauty Question: How do you see beauty

Last week, my daughter had a play-date with her girlfriend.  They played dress up in my clothes. They were walking down my long hallway modeling and posing as if they were on American Next Top Model.  The little girl looked in the mirror. Then the mood in the room changed.  The girl said, “I look ugly”   I asked her why you think you are ugly. She replied, “I’m fat, dark and bold headed “and then the tears started flowing.

My jaw dropped to the floor.  She is a beautiful chocolate child and she is no bigger than a minute.  Who told this baby she was not cute?  We all know this question, society told her that she was ugly; the entertainment industry said she was unattractive and her peers called her hideous.

I'm asking my readers this question
Is beauty skin deep or really in the eye of the beholder?

I also asked my fashion instructor at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh this question.

She replied, “beauty can only be processed initially by the eye of the beholder...seeing deeper requires a bit more time and desire to look beyond the surface, but what great treasure lay beneath the surface! And no two sets of eyes can see the same thing, perception is the variable ;)”
